Notes about this item. Protoform 190mm Chrysler 300M KMaynesPaint's own prototype Racing Team #001 Driver figure This car is based loosely on "Voice of Fire," commissioned for the American Pavilion at Expo '67 in Montreal and painted by Barnett Newman in that year. The piece is property of the National Gallery of Canada - their acquisition in 1989 of the piece at its selling price at the time of $1.8 million (as I recall) caused much public uproar. I've always thought that Newman's piece would be more impressive, or at least have more to look at, if it were not just stripes of solid colour but made up of intricately laid out shapes and patterns within the stripes. Enter my penchant for stylized flame patterns, and behold, we've got a snazzy design for a racecar. The design for this body started early in the summer of 2004, and after being cut out it sat for 13 months before I finally got around to starting the actual paint work. The figure is something I've been working on off and on for some time, and recently decided to push forward on completing the first of the line, in time to make a debut at the 2005 Canadian Asphalt Invitational, August 19-21 in Edmonton Alberta. You can find out more about the figure line here. |
